Merrick is a lover of movement, continuously in awe of the body and its potential for unique expression, creativity, and authentic connection. Influenced by her background in figure skating, acroyoga, hand-balancing, and contact improv, she guides playful movement experiences as an opportunity for co-creation, exploration, and listening, while strengthening intimate and preverbal human to human conversations. Merrick grew up in West Bloomfield, MI and is currently based in San Francisco, CA.
What would it be like to feel intimately connected to another human through movement? In this guided, all-levels contact improvisation workshop, we will co-create movement conversations in partners, trios, and with the whole room to allow for deep listening and somatic connection. The workshop will progress with care, starting with solo movement exploration and will build up to partner, trio, and full group scores - let's dance!
Curious about new ways your body can move? Interested in exploring moving improvisationally with another? With a trio or a group? In this focused jam, we will start with guided contact improvisation fundamentals and then flow together into an open score of connected dance, play, and collaborative improv. Talking will be limited, while singing and movement conversations are very welcome. Come for some intentional wiggling, focused stillness, playful contact, and more magic to unfold.
