Elio started dancing contact improv (CI) in 2002 & was immediately hooked. Such an intimate, body-based way to connect! When he teaches, he holds a strong/safe container & uses humor & inclusiveness to take people from tentative to confident & having fun. He is a somatic-based life coach & applies these sensibilities to his approach to CI. He's found contact to be the most fun (& at time treacherous) ways to do deep, meaningful work.
Traditionally, contact jams have been a music-less space for bodies to come together to explore contact. Over time, contact improv has found its way to other settings, one of which is the ecstatic dance scene. This jam will be a hybrid—with live ambient music, which will serve to support bodies coming together, but not override our own inner rhythm. A facilitated warmup will help break the ice & invite more permission to dance with each other. All levels welcome.
Find grounding in your self while on the road to organically connecting physically others. Learn different levels of touch, giving & receiving weight, how to use imbalance to generate enlivening unpredictables. Practice ways to keep yourself & others physically & emotionally safe. Release your nervousness around contact & find delight in safely guided exercises. You may end up leaving with smiles & new bonds. Expect to learn ways to be on the dance floor that are empowering & super fun!
